Devotional: The God of Light

God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

This is one of my favorite verses because I draw so much strength, assurance and stability from it. In a world of darkness, and often the kind that is masquerading as light, God is the only true, unchanging light that eventually exposes all the counterfeits. In the God I know there is no darkness at all:

  • No deceit
  • No envy
  • No hidden agenda
  • No using
  • No malice
  • No pride
  • No self-seeking
  • No two-facedness
  • No gossip
  • No slander
  • No back stabbing
  • No injustice
  • No broken promises
  • No bait and switch
  • No twisted logic
  • No manipulation
  • No faking
  • No vanity
  • No betrayal
  • No any of the things even the best of humanity hasn’t been guilty of even once, even just in thought.

"God is not human, that he should lie...or change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" Numbers 23:19

God is who He says He is. He is not you, or me, or one or many someones who have hurt and betrayed us. And because of it, He is fully trustworthy. He is fully safe. By his very nature, He is all light and all truth (even if we can’t wrap our brains around that concept) and that brings me peace in a world of so much darkness.
